Several journalists around the world have been killed for exposing corruption. In Europe the murders of Daphne Caruana Galizia in Malta last year and Jan Kuciak in Slovakia this year led to intense consternation and robust response from the journalist community. New projects were jointly launched by media organizations to follow up the stories that the two journalists were working on. The message to the killers and those who hired them is that there are others who have the courage. If one journalist is silenced, it will have a ‘Hydra effect’ and many more journalists everywhere will cover these stories.
