IPI World Congress 2018 has ended

The International Press Institute (IPI) held its 2018 annual World Congress in Abuja, Nigeria from 21-23 June 2018. Under the theme “Why Good Journalism Matters”, the World Congress affirmed the indispensable role of quality media in building strong societies, showcasing investigative stories and projects that bring positive change to individuals and communities in Africa and around the world.

Dr. Mostefa Souag is acting director general of Al Jazeera Media Network. Prior to this he held various positions within the network, including as managing director of Al Jazeera Arabic, director of news, and advisor to His Excellency Sheikh Hamad bin Thamer Al-Thani, chairman of the board for Al Jazeera Media Network. He also served as director of the Al Jazeera Center for Studies and was also based in London as a bureau chief. Before joining Al Jazeera Media Network he worked at the BBC World Service and MBC. Dr. Souag has a doctorate in literacy studies. He was professor of literary theory at the University of Algiers (Algeria) until 1993, when he left to work in journalism/media. He is fluent in Arabic, French and English.
