Founder
Zambia

Joan Chirwa, a journalist with 16 years of experience both in the field and management position, is a self-driven and highly motivated media personality.
Born on August 7, 1981, Joan holds a Master of Arts Degree in Mass Communication from Leicester University in the United Kingdom and is currently reading law at the University of Zambia.
Her experience in top management position at The Post (now liquidated) as Managing Editor exposed her to wider media operations and advocacy for press freedom.
Joan has on several occasions spoken at key international events on the media landscape in Zambia before and after the closure of The Post. It is this exposure and interaction with other press freedom advocates that forced Joan to form the Free Press Initiative Zambia, a platform on which she and her colleagues hope to keep pushing for professionalism in journalism through constant training and advocate greater press freedom in Zambia.
