IPI World Congress 2018 has ended

The International Press Institute (IPI) held its 2018 annual World Congress in Abuja, Nigeria from 21-23 June 2018. Under the theme “Why Good Journalism Matters”, the World Congress affirmed the indispensable role of quality media in building strong societies, showcasing investigative stories and projects that bring positive change to individuals and communities in Africa and around the world.

Media Council of Kenya
Programmes Manager
Victor Bwire is programmes manager at the Media Council of Kenya. In addition to managing the programmes portfolio at the Council, he runs trainings on specialized reporting including safety and protection of journalists, media and terrorism and violent extremism, fake news and media ethics, in Kenya and the East and Great Horn of Africa. He previously worked as an investigative reporter at the Daily Nation.

He has taught at the University of Nairobi, United States International University (USIU) and Mt. Kenya University. He has published extensively on media and VE, safety of journalists, media and migration
He previously worked as ARTICLE 19’s Eastern Africa Progammes Officer on Journalists Safety and Media Freedom and has been a writer for the Nation Media Group and The Standard. He was also a human rights officer at the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights.

Bwire holds a master’s degree in communication and media studies, a post- graduate diploma in mass communication and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Nairobi. He also holds a post-graduate diploma in environmental journalism and communication from Makerere University, Uganda.
