IPI World Congress 2018 has ended

The International Press Institute (IPI) held its 2018 annual World Congress in Abuja, Nigeria from 21-23 June 2018. Under the theme “Why Good Journalism Matters”, the World Congress affirmed the indispensable role of quality media in building strong societies, showcasing investigative stories and projects that bring positive change to individuals and communities in Africa and around the world.

Abdulwaheed Odusile is a Nigerian journalist with over 33 years of experience.

He started his career as a broadcast journalist, in television, before switching over to print, and has worked since 1985 in various Nigerian newspapers.

He began his newspaper career with Nigeria's then-leading newspaper, The National Concord (now defunct), in 1985 as a cub reporter and rose through the ranks to become an assistant editor. He was deputy editor of The Sunday Concord before he joined Thisday Newspaper as group news editor. At various times he was group politics editor and group foreign affairs editor at Thisday before he later pitched his tent with Nigeria's leading tabloid, Daily Sun, as assistant editor. From there, he moved on to become editor at National Life before assuming his current position as managing editor at The Nation Newspapers.

Early in his career, he took active part in the activities of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and was elected secretary while at Concord Press of Nigeria. He served as vice chairman in Lagos State and later became a member of its national executive Committee. In 2015 he was elected national president of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, a position he currently holds. He is also president of the Federation of African Journalists (FAJ). He holds a degree in journalism and master’s degree in international law and diplomacy.
